The Fototeca Regionale holds over 1,500 photographs of drawings from the celebrated albums of Antonio Canova (Possagno 1757- Venice 1822), donated to the Museo Civico di Bassano del Grappa by the sculptor's half-brother, Abbot Giambattista Sartori Canova, in the mid-19th century.
The ten large-format albums and eight medium-sized notebooks contain life drawings, sketches and “inventions”, often accompanied by handwritten notes by the artist.
Taken between 1975 and 1979, the photographs document almost all the drawings in Canova's albums sheet by sheet, with a few exceptions and the Album E, of which no reproductions have been found in the Regional Photo Library collection to date.
