The Fototeca Regionale has over 500 photographic reproductions of weapons and armour from the 14th to the 19th century, kept in the Armoury of Monselice Castle.
The collection was put together by Vittorio Cini, owner of Monselice Castle and promoter of the extensive restoration work conducted under the guidance of Nino Barbantini.
The individual items in the collection were purchased by Count Cini with the aim of assembling the original armoury of a mediaeval castle. The pieces were selected by Remo Fedi, previously curator of the armoury of Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome. Mostly of Italian origin, the weapons include swords, schiavone (swords of the doge’s guards), daggers, crossbows and halberds.
In 1972 Vittorio Cini donated Monselice Castle to the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, and it was subsequently purchased by the Veneto Region in 1981.
The photographs were taken in 1980 by the Lufin studio in Abano Terme.
The photographic collection has been fully digitised and the material can be viewed by consulting the online catalogue.
